If you don’t plan on scaling the Matterhorn or spending the night on the shores of the Antarctic, the Heimplanet Mavericks tent can still be useful for you.  However, if you don’t want to spend nearly $7,000 on a tent (yikes!), you can opt for the more accessible Heimplanet Cave Tent.  It provides much of the same functionality at a lower wind rating, but at only 1/10th of the price.  We featured the Heimplanet Cave Tent in a recent article 10 Adventure Gadgets for Exploring the Great Outdoors, a must-read for fans of tenting technology like this.  While the Heimplanet Mavericks tent might be the gold standard for fast-pitching, extreme-wind camping technology, we hope to see more like this from competing brands in the near future.  The Heimplanet Cave Tent is a great alternative, but air-based tent structures like this should be the future of camping for casual campers as well.
